    Why you'll love this recipe

This meal is so versatile and doesn't take long to make!

Just steam broccoli or any vegetables you have on hand, make a batch of white rice, and cook the marinated steak!

Great for lunch, dinner, or meal prep!

    🍴Ingredient Notes

Ingredients measured out for teriyaki beef bowls.
    • Flank Steak or Flat Iron Steak - Or any thin steak without a bone. I personally love Butcher Box meat because there are no added hormones, and the cows are grass fed AND grass finished!
    • Broccoli Florets - You can buy them pre-cut in a bag or cut a head of broccoli yourself!
    • Uncooked White Rice - I used basmati, but any rice will work!
    • Teriyaki Sauce - I love Primal Kitchen No Soy Teriyaki Sauce. (It's Whole30 friendly!)
    • Green Onions - Green onions add so much flavor. Use them while cooking the steak and as a garnish on top of each bowl.
    • Sesame Seeds - This isn't necessary, but it's a nice touch! I sprinkle sesame seeds on the final dish.

    🍴Step by Step Instructions

    Step 1: Marinating Steak

Add steak into a large bowl with teriyaki sauce. Stir around until steak is completely coated in the sauce. Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

    Step 2: Steaming Broccoli

Next, steam broccoli florets in a pot until tender. To season, add a pinch of salt and pepper.

    Steamed broccoli in pot.

    Step 3: Making White Rice

In a separate pot, cook rice according to directions on the package. You'll need at least one cup of dry rice.

White rice in a small pot.

    Step 4: Cooking Steak

Cook the steak on a hot skillet for about 6 minutes on each side. (Depending on how well done you like your steak!)

    Steak cooked in skillet.

    Step 5: Assembling Bowls

Assemble the bowls by adding in rice, broccoli, and steak cut into thin strips. Top with sesame seeds, extra teriyaki sauce, and chopped green onions.

    Expert Tips

    • Do not over steam the broccoli or it will become mushy. It should be fork tender, but not too soft.
    • Add 2 cups of cauliflower rice to the pot of white rice to sneak in some extra vegetables!
    • Steak will continue cooking in the pan when you remove it from the heat, so I like to pull it off when it's a little underdone.
    • Lightly salt the rice and broccoli.
    • Drizzle sauce over beef bowls before serving.
    • Feel free to cut the steak into bite sized pieces when serving!

    Frequently Asked Questions

What cut of meat is used for teriyaki beef?

Flank steak or flat iron steak works best!

What goes well with teriyaki beef?

I like serving mine with broccoli and white rice, but you could also serve it with rice noodles, a mix of steamed vegetables, or cauliflower rice.

How can I make this dish Whole30 and Paleo friendly?

Simply swap the white rice for cauliflower rice! You could also skip the rice and serve the teriyaki beef with steamed vegetables or lettuce wraps.

    How to store leftovers

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
